Family Fun for All Seasons at Great Wolf Lodge in Mason

Before the start of a long holiday weekend, I, along with my two sons, ages 9 and 6, decided to have an adventure and spend the night at Great Wolf Lodge in Mason, Ohio. We had never been before, but we have always been intrigued when we drove by on our way to Kings Island.

We checked into the hotel and quickly made our way to the indoor water park. The pool area is a balmy 84 degrees year round. The boys loved the Slap Tail Pond (wave pool) and spent the majority of their time riding the waves in the available inner tubes. We also took several trips on the Crooked Creek (action river) and slid down a few of the smaller slides off of Fort Mackenzie (very wet jungle jim). Unfortunately, the outdoor pool was closed the day of our visit. Although my boys were too big, there is also a kiddie area with four slides of its own and spray fountains.  If your kids are interested in trying the bigger slides, here’s a tip: there are different tubes are needed for different slides, so make sure to have the correct one before climbing to the top!

After a couple of hours of swimming, we had built up our appetites and opted to check out the Hungry as a Wolf pizza where you can order a pizza, along with other Italian dishes, drinks and snacks and enjoy dinner in the water park area. We finished our pizza and spent the remainder of our evening riding the waves in the wave pool.

During our stay, the water park closed at 8:00, so we ventured over to the Northern Lights arcade and enjoyed some ski ball, fruit ninja and other games. We selected our prizes and then went to check out the Great Clock Tower Show. Although we departed the show early, a full crowd of families stayed until the end.

We ended our evening back in our room, where we relaxed on the patio and enjoyed a movie. There was an in-room Xbox, but parents take note, there is only one controller.

Unfortunately we had to leave early the next day, but access to the water park is available the second day until close. A nice feature if you want to spend two days in the water.

The boys are anxious to return to the beautiful hotel and enjoy the fun times they had at the waterpark. Next time, we plan to check out one of the KidCamp or KidCabin suites. The boys would also like to take a journey through MagiQuest.
