Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. It’s in the fall (my favorite season), there’s a crispness to the air, everything is pumpkin-flavored and there’s candy everywhere. Oh, and it’s the one day of the year when both kids and kids-at-heart can dress up in whatever costume suits their fancy.
Fortunately for fall-time visitors to Ohio’s Largest Playground, there are no shortage of fun and festive Halloween activities in Warren County. From the truly terrifying to the not-so-scary, Halloween in Southwest Ohio is always a “hauntingly” good time!
Two of the scariest attractions Warren County has to offer are Halloween Haunt at Kings Island and the Springboro Haunted Hayride and Black Bog. Halloween Haunt includes haunted mazes, live shows and performances, as well as costumed actors roaming throughout the park, ready to jump out of the fog and scare the nearest fright-seekers. Most of the park’s thrill rides are open and operating, as well. Halloween Haunt is not intended for children under age 13, due to its intensity.
The Springboro Haunted Hayride and Black Bog has been voted one of the best hayrides in the area, and one of the best haunted trails in Ohio. You’ll hear stories of encounters that defy explanation, and the actors will do their very best to scare the “yell” out of you!
If getting the living daylights scared out of you isn’t your thing, but you still want to send a shiver up your spine, then Bonnybrook Farms’ Lantern Light Wagon Ride and Corn Maze might be right up your alley. This family-friendly, history-based ghost tour is a lantern lit wagon ride along the old stone roads of the farm. You’ll also want to bring your flashlight to go through the corn maze, where you’ll never what’s around the next corner. Also, if you just want to sit and relax, you can hang out around the campfire to listen to ghost stories.
Another option for a spooky time (rather than terrifying) is the Ghostly Walking Tour in Waynesville. You’ll have a chance to experience the most haunted village in Ohio firsthand as you tour historic buildings along Main Street and the Quaker Hill area of Waynesville while learning about past and present ghostly encounters.
There’s still fun for the little ones! Snoopy’s Halloween Party takes place in the Soak City section of Kings Island during the daylight hours, where it’s all fun and no fear. Snoopy’s Halloween Party includes, among many other activities, a petting zoo, pony rides, pumpkin decorating and a kids’ costume parade and contest.
Warren County is home to nonstop fun year-round, but its incredible Halloween activities make October a particularly great time to visit Ohio’s Largest Playground!
