Warren County may be known as Ohio’s Largest Playground, but that’s not to say it’s just for kids. Home to a bevy of bed & breakfasts, historical and outdoor excursions, and so much more, it’s also the perfect place for a grown-up recess! Here’s just a sampling of the adult-approved fun you’ll find in Ohio’s Largest Playground.
One of the most unique ways to start off your grown-up Warren County weekend is with a visit to Fort Ancient Earthworks & Nature Preserve in scenic Oregonia. The largest and best-preserved prehistoric hilltop enclosure in the United States, this one-of-a-kind site is home to more than 2,000 years of Native American history and culture. An interactive museum, seasonal outdoor garden, picnic area, and 2.5 miles of breathtaking hiking trails complete the Fort Ancient experience.
Next, head on over to Morrow, Ohio’s Valley Vineyards Winery & Brewery for drinks and dinner. One of Warren County’s most unique dining gems, Valley Vineyards is the second largest vineyard in the state of Ohio, and the recipient of numerous wine industry awards. Guests are invited to sample those award-winning wines, masterfully produced using 28 varieties of grapes from the Ohio River Valley, as well as a variety of Cellar Dweller craft beers also brewed by the vineyard’s staff. To top it all off, the vineyard’s weekend cookouts feature grill-your-own steaks and salmon. A cookout at a winery–that’s hard to beat.
When it’s time to wind down for the night, head on over to the historic village of Waynesville for a great night’s stay at the Hammel House Inn. Originally a stage coach stop, the inn welcomed its first guest in 1787, and still functions as a popular bed & breakfast today. Each room features antique, custom-built cherry furniture, making each guest’s stay a charming, down-home experience. The dining room features daily luncheon specials and homemade desserts, and is just walking distance from more than 50 unique antique and specialty shops which line Waynesville’s main drag.
To close out your weekend, take a trip to RiversEdge Outfitters in Waynesville for a canoe, kayak or raft expedition down one of the least crowded and most secluded stretches of the Little Miami Scenic River. Relaxing, yet thrilling all the same, it’s the perfect way to cap your Warren County experience.
