Whenever I’m craving great food and a great place to explore and relax, I often find that few areas have more to offer than Historic Downtown Lebanon in Warren County. While Lebanon certainly has plenty of great places to shop and explore, my favorite aspect of the town is easily its dining scene.
On my typical journey through Lebanon, I often start at the historic Golden Lamb. The Golden Lamb has a little something for everyone, and with its huge portion sizes, is a must-try for anyone with a big appetite. Personally, I always start off with an order of Sauerkraut Balls. (I love sauerkraut, but even if you’re not a fan, these are a must-try). From there, The Golden Lamb’s varied entree menu ensures you’ll find something you’ll love, whether you’re in the mood for a great sandwich, a fantastic salad, or anything else.
If it’s something sweet you’re after, look no further than Whit’s Frozen Custard. Whit’s has a fantastic selection of custard varieties, and I can safely say that you will be happy no matter which flavor you choose. Whit’s is my favorite place to go for frozen treat, as I love being able to choose exactly what I’m in the mood for, like a Whitser, which is custard blended with the “topping/s” of your choice (I highly recommend banana, peanut butter, and chocolate syrup!). Four flavors of custard are always available (Chocolate, Vanilla, the Flavor of the Day, and the Flavor of the Week), and rotating specialty flavors–many of which you’d have trouble finding elsewhere–are also offered. A personal favorite of mine is vanilla with chunks of real blueberry pie. No matter what you order, though, you’re in for a treat!
To wrap up my day in Lebanon, I always make sure to stop by the Golden Turtle Chocolate Factory. With its excellent selection of chocolates and other candies, the longtime Lebanon staple is an absolute must-stop spot for anyone with a sweet tooth. I personally love their Texas Tortoises, which are pecan halves covered in creamy caramel and engulfed in your choice of dark or milk chocolate, but there are plenty of other delicious delicacies to choose from as well.
With more must-stop restaurants than you could possibly hit in just one day, Historic Downtown Lebanon truly is a dining destination.
