A Day at The Beach in Ohio’s Largest Playground

On a hot summer day, there are few things my friends and I love more than hitting the pool. Earlier this summer, in fact, we decided to take our poolside plans to a whole new level with a trip to The Beach Waterpark–one of Southwest Ohio’s most popular summertime hangouts. Home to an awesome selection of inner tube and body water slides, plus an enormous wave pool, and long, relaxing lazy river, the Beach kept us entertained for hours upon hours.

Our first stop, Kokomo Lazy River, was one our absolute favorites. My friends and I got to relax as we floated down the meandering river together, keeping careful watch for its occasional waterfalls and fountains in an effort to avoid getting completely drenched. Soon enough, though, we threw our worries of getting soaked aside and started to work our way through the park’s impressive collection of water slides.

A lightning-fast race down the Cowabunga Curler (which I happened to win) kicked things off before we hit the Big Kahuna–a 500-foot inner tube slide which proved to be one of the highlights of our day. Speeding through its endless twists and turns, we found ourselves screaming, surprised by just how fast we were flying. Making our ride down the Big Kahuna even more fun was that fact that our group was able to ride together, something we also enjoyed on Maui Wowie and the Soarin’ Eagle Zipline–two of the park’s other group-friendly thrills. Pipepline Plunge, a fully enclosed slide that sends riders winding blindly through a dark tunnel, was yet another high-speed highlight.

Once we’d had our fill of water slide thrills, we relaxed the rest of our day away at the Big Surf Wave Pool. Boasting wild enough waves to take you for a ride, but none strong enough to overwhelm swimmers, the 750,000-gallon heated pool proved to be the perfect conclusion to our Beach-bound summer afternoon. Our only regret? Not getting to ride every single slide. We’ll be sure to hit them all when we come back next summer!
